Marcus Lippold

Marcus-Lippold

“I have worked and lived across Europe for many years and realised early on that there are far more things that unite us than divide us in Europe. Once you get beyond the language barriers this becomes even more evident. There are more shared values and an appreciation of certain joint approaches than politicians like us to believe.

With this mentoring program I would like to build on that European base in order to support, guide and encourage new talent to take on the challenges we face and pass on some of my own experiences made (successes and failures) in order for them to become more effective in pursuing and realising their ideas and projects.”

Overview

Marcus Lippold is an Advisor to the European Commission and a guest lecturer for Energy Economics & Energy Policy at the Nuertingen-Geislingen University of Applied Sciences. From 2015 to 2019 he was Corporate Planning Manager for Europe & Russia for Saudi Aramco in London. He has been member of the Board of Directors of United Europe since December 2019.

Approach

Marcus is convinced that Europe can be even more successful if it cooperates more strongly and seeks out areas of joint interest more proactively. All recent challenges, from the financial crisis to immigration towards Europe to the COVID 19 pandemic, can and need to be managed better via closer cooperation among EU member states and its institutions and citizens. Looking ahead, in order to square up to the competition coming from the USA and China especially, in order for Europe to remain globally competitive and politically relevant, it needs to act closely together. But for this to succeed we need the next generation of courageous, committed individuals willing to work across borders, breaking down barriers and seeking new approaches.

Career History

Marcus served as Vice President for corporate strategy for MOL Group in Budapest and was a deputy member of the Executive Board of FuelsEurope. From 2008 to 2013 he worked for the European Commission as Coordinator for EU International Energy Relations. Preceding this, Marcus spent 17 years working internationally for ExxonMobil in the areas of Financial Reporting & Planning, IT Systems and Marketing & Business Analysis with management positions held in Europe and the USA. He is a member of Chatham House and several advisory boards and co-author of “Energy Policies of IEA Countries Review“ for Greece and the UK, amongst others.

Personal

Marcus currently lives in Brussels with his family, but remains a keen supporter of Arsenal football club. He has a son and a daughter. Marcus is trilingual (English, German, French) with a good understanding of Dutch, Italian, Hungarian.

„It would be so much better if our politicians took their oath on Europe!“
